Jeffrey Jack The Wounded Warrior Mentor Program was organized initially to match volunteer mentors with Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed and, in some cases, with follow-on mentors after the soldiers or Marines leave Walter Reed. In my work as a Mentor for this fine organization, I serve as a trusted, one-on-one, dedicated personal mentor assisting Wounded Warriors convalescing at Ft. Belvoir and at the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland with their successful transition to civilian life. I provide my Wounded Warriors (and their family members) essential resources they require to integrate successfully back into civilian life to include: assistance in applying for VA benefits, career advice and networking referrals for open vacancies nationwide and social support.
Some of these Wounded Warriors have lost limbs and are recuperating from the other horrors of war, which is a very powerful and emotional experience for me each time I have the honor of meeting with these heroes. I particularly enjoy witnessing the unmistakable inner strength that these Veterans exhibit in their eyes and the obvious drive they have to make their personal ambitions come true. These Wounded Warriors are some of the strongest human beings I’ve ever been around and it is an honor to serve them. Please, share the following link with any Wounded Warriors you know who are recuperating from their injuries at Walter Reed or elsewhere so that a mentor can be identified to assist them as they recuperate and transition back to their families across the country.
